Gaza permanent ceasefire ‘questionable’ says senior Israeli official

The durability of any truce in Gaza has been deemed less than ideal by a top Israeli official.

The senior diplomat stated that a 60-day ceasefire “may” be achievable in “a week, two weeks – not a day” while speaking in Washington under anonymity. Regarding the likelihood that the truce would endure longer than 60 days, the official stated: “We will start talks on a long-term agreement.

“But we succeed? Although it’s doubtful, Hamas won’t be present.

Later today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to wrap off a four-day trip to Washington. It had been hoped that the trip would allow for the announcement of a truce. Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has said it’s near.
