The Utes defeated No. 17 Kansas 74-67 on Saturday night, led by Gabe Madsen, who finished with 24 points and became the career leader in 3-pointers made.
With 1:58 remaining in the game, Madsen made his fifth and last 3-pointer, setting a new career record for Utah with 288 made 3-pointers. Then, with 26 seconds remaining, he made two free throws to give the Utes the victory.
Prior to the Utes’ thrilling conclusion, Kansas knotted the game at 60, but Utah (14-11, 6-8 Big 12) never fell behind.
Dajuan Harris Jr. scored 14 points, Hunter Dickinson added 12, and Zeke Mayo led Kansas (17-8, 8-6) with 15 points despite having to exit the game for a short time due to a lower leg injury.
Utah won its first Quad 1 game in ten attempts thanks to 12 points from Ezra Ausar and 10 points and 12 rebounds from Jake Wahlin.
With 11:37 remaining, Kansas coach Bill Self was given a technical, and Madsen’s subsequent free throws put Utah ahead 60-49. After then, the Jayhawks scored 11 points in a row.
