Entry into Turkey

Turkey:

The international land, sea, and air borders of Turkey are all open. Check with airlines directly for the most up-to-date information on flights to and from Turkey.

All visitors to Turkey must fill out an online form 72 hours prior to their arrival. Before boarding your aircraft, you may be requested to produce evidence of submission to your airline. Passengers passing Turkey without leaving the international transit zone are exempt from this requirement.

All flights from Brazil, Nepal, South Africa, and Sri Lanka to Turkey have been cancelled. Direct travel to Turkey from these countries is not authorised. If you are travelling from another nation but have spent the preceding 14 days in certain countries:

If you’ve spent the preceding 14 days in Bangladesh, India, or Pakistan:

  • You must produce a negative PCR test result obtained within 72 hours of your arrival.
  • You must then spend 10 days quarantine at your home or another place selected by you.
  • On day 10, a negative PCR test result will be required to escape quarantine.
  • You will not be needed to quarantine if you can show proof of having been completely vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days before to arrival.

If you’re arriving in Turkey from Afghanistan, or have been in Afghanistan in the last 14 days:

  • You must submit a negative PCR test result obtained within 72 hours of your arrival, otherwise you will be obliged to spend 10 days in quarantine at your own expense at a government-approved hotel.
  • Hotel reservations must be made in advance of travel, and confirmation of your reservation must be given prior to departure.
  • On day 7, a negative PCR test will be necessary to release quarantine.

Quarantine requirements do not apply to passengers transiting Turkey without leaving the international transit zone.

If you’re arriving from countries not listed above (including Australia) you’ll need to present one of the following:

  • proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days previous to arrival evidence of recovering from COVID-19 within the last 6 months (entry into Turkey must be within the six months starting from 28 days after you initially tested positive)
  • a negative PCR test result obtained within 72 hours of arrival and a negative fast antigen test obtained within 48 hours of arrival

For children aged 11 and under, no PCR test of vaccination certificate is needed.

Check with your airline ahead of time to see what documents you’ll need to submit at check-in.

On arriving in Turkey, you may be subjected to random PCR testing. After the test samples have been obtained, you will be able to proceed to your final destination. If the test is positive, you will be treated according to the COVID–19 recommendations established by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health:

If the testing discovers the delta version of COVID-19, a negative PCR test result on day 10 will be required to escape quarantine. If the testing detects the delta variant of COVID-19, a negative PCR test result on day 14 will be required to exit quarantine.

In airports and during the length of all flights to and from Turkey, you must wear a face mask at all times.

Check if you’ll be allowed to return to your home country or go on to your next destination before travelling to Turkey. Travelers from Turkey may face quarantine or other restrictions in some places.

Visiting Turkey

Curfews, Sunday lockdowns, and limitations on public and inter-city transportation have all been repealed in Turkey.

In Turkey, you must wear a face mask in public. This includes stores, restaurants, hairdressers, and barbershops, as well as streets, parks, marketplaces, and public transit. If you don’t wear a face mask, you’ll be penalised.

All domestic flights, inter-provincial public transportation, and admission to concerts, theatres, and cinemas need documentation of COVID-19 immunisation, recent COVID-19 recovery, or a negative PCR test (within 48 hours). A HES (Hayat Eve Sigar) code should be associated with the form of proof.

For internal and international flights, trains, buses, and ferries, the HES code must be shown. In addition, the HES code will be required for checking into retail malls and lodging such as hotels, motels, boarding houses, pensions, and camp grounds. In certain provinces, entering public facilities, hotels, restaurants, and banks also requires the input of a HES code. This does not apply to visitors from other countries.

Shopping malls, supermarkets, marketplaces, and eating businesses (restaurants, patisseries, cafés, and cafeterias) have reopened, as have theatres, internet cafes, gyms, bars, clubs, and other recreational facilities.

In reaction to COVID-19 outbreaks in villages and suburbs, Turkish authorities have instituted localised lockdowns, curfews, and quarantines. Follow local officials’ guidance and make sure your travel insurance covers an extended stay in the event of a local lockdown. COVID-19-related limitations will be enforced by the police.
