Ariana Grande couldn’t hold back the tears.
The songstress, who stars as Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation, had an emotional moment during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show set to air on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The talk show host surprised Grande with the original wand used by Billie Burke as Glinda the Good Witch in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz.
“I have something that’s extremely exciting and special,” Drew Barrymore announced in a preview clip of the interview.
“It was owned by the Smithsonian and now it’s owned in private hands. But for the purposes of our sit down, they loaned it to us. Bring out the original Glinda wand, please!”
The sight of the iconic, star-topped wand brought Grande to tears.
“Thank you so much,” the 31-year-old singer and actress said, visibly moved. “Are you serious right now?” In a lighthearted moment, she joked, “Thank you, guys, it’s been fun. Bye!” as she pretended to leave with the prop.
Barrymore, 49, responded warmly, “You look so perfect with it.”
Grande, who plays the bubbly Galinda Upland (the future Glinda the Good Witch) in the Jon M. Chu-directed adaptation of the Broadway hit Wicked, was overcome with emotion. Burke, who originated the role of Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, is remembered for her unforgettable portrayal of the character in the Judy Garland-led film.
“How did you pull this off?” Grande asked Barrymore through tears. “Oh, my God, did you break in?”
Barrymore explained the effort that went into securing the cherished antique.
“I have to give credit to everyone on the show because literally we were so excited about you coming here,” she said. “That is the original wand from *The Wizard of Oz*. So there you go.”
