Dakota Johnson calls out Hollywood’s risk-averse culture

Dakota Johnson has spoken out against Hollywood’s present situation, describing the industry’s emphasis on remakes and sequels as a “bit of a mess.”

In a recent interview on Hot Ones, Johnson discussed why Hollywood has become so risk-averse, pointing out that creative decisions are frequently decided by committee and by individuals who do not genuinely appreciate the art of cinema.

“I think it’s hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it’s hard when creative decisions are made by people who don’t even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what’s occurring a lot,” Johnson told the audience.

Hollywood has been in an IP (Intellectual Property) frenzy in recent years, with a concentration on remakes and sequels to blockbuster film and television properties.

This trend has made it more difficult for innovative concepts to get momentum, as studios and streamers prefer to avoid projects that look unfamiliar or risky.

The focus on remakes and sequels has resulted in a shortage of original content in Hollywood. Johnson’s views emphasize the importance of more imaginative and risk-taking storytelling in the business.
