Courtney Ford and her husband, Brandon Routh, are divorcing.
The actress, who is well-known for playing Clark Kent, has made the decision to dissolve her marriage and filed for divorce.
Documents acquired by TMZ show that the Dexter star filed the paperwork on Wednesday, stating “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the breakup. For more than 17 years, the couple has been wed.
The date of their separation has not been disclosed by Ford in the petition. Ford is asking for shared legal and physical custody of the couple’s 12-year-old son, Leo. She is also requesting spousal support, but she has urged the court to exclude Routh from receiving any of it.
Ford and Routh began dating in 2004, and they were married in 2007 in Santa Barbara’s El Capitan Ranch. Following a three-year romance that started with Routh’s 2006 proposal, they were married, signifying more than 20 years of dating.
Ford has established herself on television with performances in hit series like True Blood, Parenthood, and Supernatural, while Routh is most recognized for his portrayal as Superman in Superman Returns.
The actors have both established prosperous careers in the entertainment world, and the announcement of their divorce marks the end of a lengthy Hollywood partnership.
