Give back to your community so that you can connect with more people, like family and friends. Think about how you and your clients can help your community this holiday season. There are a lot of ways to do this. Even though there are a lot of ways to give back to your community, volunteering at a local charity or non-profit organisation and hosting a fundraiser are two of the best and easiest ways to do so.
Volunteer at a Local Charity or Non-Profit Organization in your Area
Find a cause that you care about and your clients will also care about before you start. As a first step, start by narrowing down the list of causes to two or three things (for example, people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, childhood health, pet adoption centres or shelters, etc.). Next, ask your clients which cause they want to help this season. As a result, your clients will be more likely to help you out.
From the polled list of causes, pick the one that is most important to you and look for a few local groups that work to help. To save time while looking for a job, reach out to a few organisations at the same time. Some organisations may not be looking for volunteers at the moment. Find out if there are any volunteer opportunities they have, and how you can get your whole team to help out.
You will need to find out what dates and places are available for volunteer work. Ask your clients which dates and times work best for them. Take into account that you will most likely not have the time and date that works for everyone. Choose a time that most people can agree on. It’s common for groups of people to be able to volunteer at different times on a certain day of the week. This would allow more people in your group to come based on their schedules.
People who want to help should show up and put a lot of energy into the cause they choose. If you can, have some fun with it and bring hot chocolate or something else that will get everyone in the mood for giving back. Finally, don’t forget to say thank you to everyone who came and worked hard.
Hosting a fundraising event
If you want to host a fundraiser, you’ll need to pick a cause and an organisation to help. In the end, of course, if you decide to host an in-person fundraiser, be aware of local health recommendations so that everyone can be as safe as possible. You may also want to think about whether the event you’re hosting needs an extra waiver to make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep your clients safe by telling them about the risks.
If you’re planning a fundraising event, you might need to register it with your Secretary of State. There are some legal things to think about, too (this is a step often overlooked by businesses). Please check with your Secretary of State to find out what you need to do to host a fundraiser. You can also talk to your lawyer to find out what is legal in your state or area.
You could also hold a fundraiser from home with the help of the group you want to help. Many times, these groups have a website where you and your clients can make a team page. This is often the simplest way to raise money for the group you want to help.
Once you have a fundraising portal set up, you can choose how you want to raise money for your cause. Ask your clients what they want to do to earn money. Among other things, they might ask their friends and family to donate $1 for every mile they walk. They might also ask their friends and family to donate $1 for every pound they lift in a week or month. People can donate money to the cause however they want, but make it fun to get them to help out.
Tell ACE what you do
Doing good deeds together with your clients can make them feel more connected. This helps build more trust and strengthens the relationship you have with your clients and the people in your community, so enjoy it. You and your clients should use #ACEprosgiveback so we can see what you and your clients do this year.
