Brazil calls out world ‘preoccupied’ by defense.

As it attempts to pull nations together for climate change meetings later this year, Brazilian authorities have criticized the drive to boost defense spending.

The COP climate summit last year concluded in disappointment because it failed to raise even a small amount of money to help countries deal with the worse droughts, more frequent floods, and already rising sea levels that are driving migration.

However, the US demanded this week that defense expenditure be increased to 5% of GDP, and most NATO members agreed.

While the frequency of international conflicts and the number of people murdered in them has been increasing since the 2000s, leaders are concerned about terrorism and Russian military threats.
