Blizzard warning, nor’easter to blast East Coast

There is going to be a strong nor’easter in the Northeast from Friday nite until Saturday. This storm is going to bring blizzard conditions to coastal areas from Virginia all the way to Maine.

  • Most people in the United States were under some kind of winter weather alert on Friday morning.
  • Officers said that wind-blown snow could make travel “almost impossible.”
  • As time goes on, the blizzard could become one of the most important events in Boston’s history.

As of Friday afternoon, more than 75 million people in the United States were under some kind of winter weather alert. This included the Chicago metro area, which saw its own lake-effect snowstorm Friday.

AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist, Jon Porter, said that the storm on the East Coast will be “harmful and life-threatening.” It will bring a blizzard to some areas, especially in southern New England.

“Bands of heavy snow will form in eastern New England during the heart of the storm,” he said. During that time, 2 to 4 inches of snow will fall per hour, which is a very high rate of snowfall. Thunder and lightning could also happen because of these powerful bands.

Chicago is getting slammed with snow that comes from the lake. When and where does it happen?

Officers also said that wind-blown snow could make travel “almost impossible.” Forecasters say the storm could dump more than three feet of snow and up to 90 mph winds on New England because it comes from Japan.

The strong winds raised concerns about possible power outages. The Eversource utility company, which serves a lot of New England, has hired a lot of extra repair crews and is putting them where the storm is expected to be the worst.

Throughout New England, people were rushing to buy bread, eggs, milk, and other food at grocery stores on Friday.

As many as a thousand people came to a Shaw’s grocery store in Warwick, Rhode Island, to buy last-minute gifts. Merrick McCormack, 51, was one of them.

Storms don’t bother me. In the next few days, we’ll be free and clear. McCormack said there was no need to panic.

The National Climate Service told people that it was going to be very hot this week. “Important seashore erosion and coastal flooding may also be important.

After the storm, colder forecast temperatures mean that wind chills could be dangerous on Saturday nite. At some points this week, the wind chill could be as low as 7 below zero at some points this week.

“This could be a record-setting storm.” Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said during a news conference on Friday morning.

At 9 p.m., Boston will be under a snow emergency. Parking will be banned on the city’s main streets.

As far as I know, there haven’t been any storms that have brought more than two feet of snow to the city in January. Axios said that if the amount of snow in the town exceeds 28 inches, which is possible, it could be the town’s biggest snowfall on record.

The National Weather Service said that New York City could get up to a foot of snow from the storm.

For the first time in three weeks, airlines were ready for the highest number of cancelations in a single day in that time. By noon on Friday, more than 1,000 flights had been canceled in the U.S., and they had already canceled about 2,500 flights for Saturday, according to FlightAware, a service that tracks planes. Airports in Chicago, the New York City area, and Boston were the hardest hit.

The storm is called a nor’easter because the winds come from the east because the storm hits the coast. It is also likely to become a “bomb cyclone,” which is a storm that quickly gets bigger because it goes through “bombogenesis.”
