However, for one Bengaluru woman, the ultimate car of her dreams came in contrast to the current trends. Instead of chasing minimalism or maximalism, the woman chose her childhood and opted to restore a vintage Premier Padmini, a classic automobile that holds deep sentimental value.
Bengaluru woman restores a vintage car
Rachana Mahadimane, a Bengaluru resident and a fashion influencer, shared her dream vehicle with her followers. She recently fulfilled her long-held aspiration of owning this iconic vehicle and bought a rundown Padmini, which she later restored. The influencer shared her excitement on Instagram with a video of herself driving the restored vintage car. She starts the video by stating:
“I can’t believe this is real. I bought myself a car for my birthday, and it’s the one I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl.”
Rachana Mahadimane revealed that her affection for the Padmini goes back to her childhood years. She added when she finally found the car, she had to purchase it. However, the condition of the Padmini was far from pristine. The vehicle required extensive repairs. She had to give the car a complete makeover for it to come back to its true beauty. After months of effort and meticulous restoration, the car emerged in a soft powder-blue shade, perfectly aligning with her vision.

Rachana Mahadimane reflected on the Padminis that surrounded her over the years. She credited the power of manifestation for her dream car coming to life. She called the feeling of owning her own car surreal.
“I’ve been spotting Padminis everywhere for the past two years. I sketched them, painted them, and documented them every time I saw one in my neighbourhood. Driving my very own Padmini now feels absolutely surreal.”

Congratulations on your very own piece of history!” A user recounted their own classic vehicle anecdote and shared, “I fulfilled my dream of owning an Ambassador this June and drove it from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Your Padmini is absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy every ride!” However, the influencer has now turned off her comments for the post.

The Premier Padmini was introduced in India under a Fiat license. The car became one of the most beloved cars during the 1970s and 1980s. It gained widespread admiration and was owned by some top celebrities like Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Aamir Khan. As modern, fuel-efficient vehicles made their presence in the Indian market, the popularity of the Padmini decreased. However, its legacy was continued by Mumbai’s iconic kaali peeli taxis, which remained in service until their retirement in 2023.
